WOLFFORTH Several ECISD competitors qualified for the Region I-6A meet Friday at the area meet at Peoples Bank Stadium.

Permian’s Akor Mayin walked out of the event with an area title after winning the girls’ high jump.

Maywin (5 feet, 2 inches) was followed by El Paso Pebble Hills Jalyn Breazeale in second and Lady Panthers’ teammate Tyra Harris (4-10.00) in third. By finishing in the top four, Maywin and Harris will be advancing to the Region I-6A meet. Permian’s Gregory Nelson won the boys’ 800 meter run.

Permian’s Calyha Brown also qualified for the regional meet by taking third in the discus and shot put events. Permian’s Taylor Vuelvas also advanced with a fourth place finish in the shot put.

The lone Odessa High athlete to make the regional meet was Relaya Hernandez who advances in the 400 meter dash in third place.

The Permian girls advanced in a trio of relays. The 400 relay team (second), 1,600 relay (fourth) and 800 relay (first) all will compete at the regional meet. The Permian boys advanced a team in the 400 relay (fourth).

The Region I-6A meet is April 28 and 29 at Maverick Stadium in Arlington.
